Radiation & Shadow studies with LadyBug
NOTE: The patches available for download use Honeybee & Ladybug 0.0.61 version Feb 05 2017. Using different version could cause problems. In that case it is strongly recommended to rebuild the patches with the owned version
RADIATION, SUNLIGHT HOURS & SHADOW STUDIES
Here is a selection of LadyBug patches to run general studies about sunlight effects on mass models, outdoor spaces and terrain using a general sky dome. These studies show the quantity of sunlight received by surfaces in terms of sunlight hours and radiation.
These type of analysis (sun light hours and, above all, radiation) are useful for building surfaces such as windows, where you might be interested in solar heat gain, or solar panels, where you might be interested in the energy that can be collected. This component is also good for surfaces representing outdoor spaces (such as parks or seating areas) where radiation could affect thermal comfort or vegetation growth.
No reflection of sunlight is included in the radiation analysis with this component and it should therefore be used neither for interior daylight studies nor for complex geometries nor for surfaces with high a reflectivity. For these situations where the reflection of light is important, the Honeybee daylight components should be used instead of this one (see: Daylight Simulation with HoneyBee)
WARNING: This component is a proof of concept that will not work in every situation. It is not ideal for analyzing curved surfaces and it is not able to calculate shadows for geometries that are intersecting each other.
01.SUNLIGHT HOURS
This patch makes it possible to visualize how many hours one or more surfaces are reached by the sun rays. There is also the possibility to define context geometry in order to evaluate their shading effect on the test surfaces. Test surfaces can be a terrain, windows, walls, roof,.. or Piv panels
02.GENERAL RADIATION ANALYSIS
This patch makes it possible to visualize the quantity or energy, in Kwh/sqm, a test surface receive during a defined period of time. Test surfaces can be a terrain, windows, walls, roof,.. or Piv panels
03.REAL TIME RADIATION ANALYSIS
This patch makes it possible to run the radiation analysis in a fastest way using the intersection Matrix in a way you can scroll through the results on an hour-by-hour, day-by-day, or mont-by-month.
