The master plan of Germaneto Campus (University of Catanzaro) extends over an area of about 200 hectares, 36% of which are represented by areas of environmental and landscape protection. It foreshadows the increase in the current building availability, equal to 700,000 cubic meters, until reaching a final size of 1,300,000 cubic meters through a long term program inspired by the following design criteria:
-Urbanity
-Compatibility
-Value
-Continuity
-Graduality
-Flexibility
The master plan is divided into different Districts defined on the basis of 22 Homogeneous Functional Units identified by a preliminary Feasibility Study.
The Districts, also defined on the basis of environmental and territorial characteristics, represent specific polarities reconnected by the University Park as a barycentric place hosting sports and recreational activities.
These districts are:
– Biomedical Pole
– Law Department
– Biopark of Germaneto
– Agri-food incubator
– Documentation and Research Centre
– Residential District
– Management Center
– Veterinary Department
– Exhibition and Commercial Center
Giuseppe Ridolfi covered the role of scientific director of the multi-specialist university research group that developed the Feasibility Study preparatory to the drafting of the master plan. The study concerned the programming of structural resources in the medium and long term, the analysis of functional needs, constraints and territorial characteristics. Subsequently he directed the preparation of the master plan and its technical regulations.
