Selection of some of the main professional and research works carried out by the Scientific Director of Mailab, Giuseppe Ridolfi, as  partner of the CSPE-Centro Studi Progettazione Edilizia and as professor at the University of Florence.

Architect, PhD in Architectural Technology, associate professor at the University of Florence where he carries out teaching and research activities at the Department of Architecture.

He holds a professorship from the AA. 1996-’97 at the School of Architecture in Florence where he taught the following courses: 

– Architecture (five-year single cycle Architectural Master),

– Multimedia Design (Disegno Industriale Bachelor Degree), 

– Video & Interaction Design (Design Master Degree),

Currently, he teaches Progettazione Ambientale (one-cycle master degree), Environmental Design (International Master in English iCAD-International Course on Architectural Design), BIM nelle fasi iniziali del processo  (second level master “BIM for the management of collaborative design processes in new and existing buildings”).

He has carried out teaching activities in lectures, university classes, masters at Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Washington University, European University Institute, Chandigarh University, Đà Nẵng University of Architecture.

Member of the Tesis Interuniversity Center since 1992 and previously member of its Management and Scientific Direction committee.

Architect since 1989, he has carried out his activity as a partner of the professional studio CSPE – Centro Studi Progetto Edilizia of Florence, dealing with large-scale architectural buildings and urban planning related to hospital, school and university buildings. His activities cover clients’ needs assessment, briefing, feasibility studies, preliminary up to detailed design, scheduling, design team management, contract management, bid evaluation, as well as construction and project communication.

As a researcher, he has been a consultant and held advisory roles for public administrations, universities and for the Ministries of “Health, Education, University and Research”. He has been the scientific coordinator for research of national interest; private, public and government research concerning technical regulations, reorganization of school buildings, feasibility studies and university master plans. He has produced robotic models for building envelopes; tools, digital products, relational data-base and board games to support evaluation and decision-making; multimedia systems for installations and scenography in electronic music, dance and communication. For over 10 years he has been involved in parametric-generative computational design and robotic envelopes design aimed at building energy optimization  and daylight & thermo-hygrometric comfort  recently integrated by the use of Artificial Intelligence.

In Multimedia he is the author of video clips for fashion; stereoscopic video-documentaries, video and interactive installations for museums, galleries, events and other public spaces including the realization of the virtual museum “Kontact-Reflections of art” in Meran as a result of an international competition.

He is the author of scientific publications on design reliability, project and construction management, real estate assessment and planning. He has carried out research in collaboration with national and international study and research centers including: Centro Interuniversitario Tesis – Tecnologie per la Sanità (Italia); CNR (Italia); Council Educational Facility Planners (USA); CSPE (Italia); Design Share (USA); Health Facilities Research (USA); Hospital Association (USA); Medical Architecture Research Unit (Gran Bretagna); School Construction News (USA); Uni (Italia). 

He has won and received honorable mentions on the occasion of national and international competitions.

His work has been published in books, catalogs and magazines.
