OSPEDALE CIVILE SANT’AGOSTINO – ESTENSE

Built in 1994-2005, this 700 bed hospital anticipated the new horizontal typology theorized, a few years later, by Renzo Piano. The architecture is clearly inspired by some of the most representative elements of the rural landscape of the Po Valley in an attempt to mitigate its impact and to bring it back to the familiar dimension of the place:
– the shapes of traditional barns, as a perceived image of its main views;
– the morphology of the raised river banks for the modeling of its site insertion and for the visual containment of its height as well
